Data Sources & Credits

Apologetics Arsenal uses the following open-source and public domain data sources.

Bible Text

  • King James Version (KJV) — Public Domain
  • American Standard Version (ASV, 1901) — Public Domain
  • World English Bible (WEB) — Public Domain

Interlinear & Lexicon

  • STEPBible-Data — Tyndale House, Cambridge. Contextual English translations for Hebrew & Greek interlinear. Licensed under CC BY 4.0.
  • Berean Standard Bible (BSB) — bereanbible.com. Interlinear word data and editorial cross-references, used under the publisher's free-use terms.
  • Strong's Concordance — Greek & Hebrew lexicon, via OpenScriptures. Public Domain.

Cross-References

  • Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (TSK) — via OpenBible.info. 344,000+ verse-to-verse cross-references. Licensed under CC BY.
  • Berean Standard Bible — 2,027 editorially curated cross-references, used under the publisher's free-use terms.

Quran & Islamic Texts

  • Quran Arabic text — Tanzil Quran Text, Copyright © 2007–2025 Tanzil Project. Used under CC BY-ND 3.0. This text may be copied only verbatim; see tanzil.net for the current release.
  • English translation — Marmaduke Pickthall, The Meaning of the Glorious Koran (1930), which entered the public domain in the United States on 1 January 2026, ninety-five years after publication. This is the translation this application serves. Other English renderings, including those of Abdullah Yusuf Ali (1934) and Saheeh International, are not republished here; short passages are quoted in analysis for commentary and criticism and remain the property of their translators and publishers. Readers are linked to quran.com for those translations.
  • Word-by-word Quran — Word-by-word English glosses and transliteration are taken from the Quranic Arabic Corpus, Copyright © Kais Dukes, 2009–2017, and are used under the GNU General Public License, version 3. The Arabic word forms are the Quranic text credited above.
  • Quranic root morphology — Tri-literal root data is derived from MASAQ: Morphologically-Analyzed and Syntactically-Annotated Quran Dataset by Majdi Sawalha, Sane Yagi, Faisal Alshargi, Bassam Hammo and Abdallah Alshdaifat, published on Mendeley Data (doi:10.17632/9yvrzxktmr.5) and used under CC BY 4.0. Changes were made: MASAQ's segment-level morphological analysis has been collapsed to a single root per word for the concordance.
  • Quranic readings (qira'at) — The word-by-word Warsh, Qalun and Doori texts are the digital Mushaf al-Madinah editions published by the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex. Only the verse text is reproduced here; the Complex's mushaf page and line layout is not. The additional Arabic readings shown for comparison were obtained through the fawazahmed0/quran-api dataset. The Arabic Quranic text is itself centuries old and in the public domain; these credits identify the digital editions used.
  • Tafsir — Tafsir Ibn Kathir (English), obtained via the spa5k/tafsir_api dataset. Al-Tabari, Al-Jalalayn and Al-Qurtubi entries are editorial summaries written for this project, not translations.

Hadith Collections

  • Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, Jami at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa'i and Sunan Ibn Majah. The classical Arabic collections are in the public domain and are shown in full. The English translations are not: Sahih al-Bukhari follows the translation of Muhammad Muhsin Khan, and the four Sunan follow modern editions, all published by Darussalam. This application quotes short excerpts for study, commentary and criticism and links to sunnah.com for the complete translation. Hadith numbering follows the Darussalam editions.

Other Sources

  • Talmud — The William Davidson Talmud, Koren Publishers Jerusalem, via Sefaria. Licensed CC BY-NC.
  • Early Church writings — Ante-Nicene and Nicene & Post-Nicene Fathers, via the Historical Christian Faith Writings Database.

We are reviewing the licensing of every source listed here and will correct this page as that work completes. If you hold rights in any material shown in this application and believe it is used improperly, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
